We’re proud of our name and the reputation behind it. It has served us well for 25 years.
In this 21st century, however, there are logistical reasons to change the name:
- Our scope of service is way beyond Virginia.
- We move freight by various modes, not just across the highway.
- People contact us to reach the state highway department.
- E mail messages with “highway” won’t reach us.
- The Internet turns down searchers who spell “highway” traditionally.
So for clarity and connectivity, we have changed our name to VHI Transport.

History - Virginia Hiway, Inc. was established in 1977 as a transportation intermediary handling mainly truckload freight. Over the last 25 years, the firm has earned the loyalty and confidence of its clients and expanded its business base and its spectrum of service.
Today, we arrange transportation by truckload, van, refrigerated van and flatbed. We also arrange for expedited freight, intermodal shipping and rail. Our Government Division handles freight for the Military Traffic Management Command, General Services Administration and other government agencies. We provide logistics management services, electronic reporting and analysis.
Reputation - Our firm is recognized nationally as one of the most progressive, honorable and knowledgeable brokerages in the country. Our reputation for integrity, outstanding customer service and successful delivery has earned us the respect of carriers, shippers and the industries they represent.
Financial Stability - Through the last quarter century, Virginia Hiway, Inc. has consistently maintained financial stability. We have the highest possible business rating conferred by Dun & Bradstreet. Leonard’s Guide Redbook gives our company the highest ratings in all measurable categories. We are a charter member of the "Good as Gold Broker Program" and an approved member of CompuNet’s "Gold Book" list.
Best Practices - The company is a founding member of the new Platinum Performance Programsm (P3 Program) - a best practices partnership developed by the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) for property brokers, freight forwarders, and motor carriers that desire to achieve a higher level of customer service and operating performance.
Technology - For more than a decade, Virginia Hiway, Inc. has been using technology to expedite its service to shippers. All dispatching and customer services are computerized. Many are Internet-based.
Our in-house Information Technology (IT) Department has created and constantly updates our flexible, custom-designed, proprietary brokerage software. This Department fulfills our commitment to constantly advance ahead of the curve to provide customers and carriers with what they will need for the next wave of technological advancement. We look at technology as a tool to maximize service, expedite communication and add value.
Interactive Website – www.VHItransport.com - The company website has been active for a number of years with instant access to in-depth information on our firm. It is now interactive as well. Our website allows interactive functions such as online load tracking for customers and online load availability for carriers.
Freight Transport Professionals - A brokerage is only as good as the professionals behind the service. Virginia Hiway, Inc. employs a senior team of veteran transportation professionals. Their experience and personal knowledge of freight management are one of our firm’s most significant assets. In the last year, our management staff has been enlarged and we are working with a nationally known transportation management and marketing consultant to appropriately strategize for the steady growth that has been our trademark throughout the history of the company.
Consistent, Rooted - The corporate headquarters of Virginia Hiway, Inc. has been located in Richmond, Virginia since its founding. We are accepted by several motor carriers and shippers as their only approved broker.

David E. Gee, CTB was elected president (2003-2004) of the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the professional organization of the $40 billion third party logistics industry. TIA is the only organization exclusively representing transportation intermediaries of all disciplines doing business in domestic and international commerce. TIA is the voice of transportation intermediaries to shippers, carriers, government officials, and international organizations. TIA is the United States member of the International Federation of Freight Forwarder Associations FIATA.

Run your own operations center using our authority, rights, credit and insurance. We’ll assist with weekly settlements, sales and marketing support and even dispatch help when necessary

VHI will book and dispatch your loads for you, freeing up your time to build your customer base. Regional sales leads provided as available.
As a Freight Broker or Agent, your role is to negotiate the best terms and arrangements for manufacturers and retailers to ship their goods. What you may not know is how accessible these agent/broker opportunities are, if you act soon.
Earnings expectations for the average first year agent are approximately $40,000+ with no cap on earnings. Experienced freight agents, with their own operations, have made well over $200,000 per year. Income is based on commission shared between you and VHI.
As a freight agent or broker, you can work from a home office or a business suite. It’s up to you.
