Jevic Transportation Ceases Operation Immediately  Back

High Fuel Costs Sluggish Economy to Blame

One of the top for-hire carriers succumbed to the ills ravishing the trucking industry.  Truckload and less-than-truckload carrier Jevic Transportation announced on Monday that it is discontinuing operations immediately.  No more pick-ups will be made, although shipments already in the system will be delivered.

In a succinct note to customers on the company website, CEO David Gorman stated, "The current high fuel costs, economic downturn, increasing insurance costs, and tightening credit markets have made this decision necessary."

Earlier this month, truckers marched on Washington to bemoan the impact of high fuel prices on their business, warning that some would have to go out of business if things did not improve.

This could be a trend-setting dramatic move .  Jevic was ranked last year as one of the 100 top American and Canadian carriers by Transport Topics magazine.

This move will have a major domino effect throughout the freight logistics industry.   VHI began early Monday morning taking steps to protect our customers and assure that shipments would be accommodated.
